"There is an Indian Legend...

When a human dies there is a bridge he must cross to enter into heaven.

At the head of that bridge waits every animal he encountered during his lifetime.

The animals... decide which humans may cross the bridge... and which are turned away."

It's leaf peeping, apple eating, pumpkin carving time in New England!

The blue skies, cool breezes and the blazing colors of potted Mums everywhere have cured me of any lingering disappointment that summer has once again come to its annual close. Autumn is that time of year when I'm most drawn to be in the great outdoors with my dogs. There are the beautiful drives north to New Hampshire and Vermont, long hikes through woodlands alive with color, and the thrill of enjoying it all without mosquitoes!

Then there are those sweet, leg weary drives home, stopping along the way for fresh apple cider and assorted New England home grown apples just waiting to be turned into pies.

If you are a native New Englander, this has probably long been a yearly ritual for you. If you are not a native New Englander, now is your chance to live like one!
But hold on for just a second... whether a quick walk somewhere beautiful nearby or a day hike farther away from home, before you head out the door you want to take a few steps to be prepared. Sierra Club has a great list of suggestions to help you enjoy successful and safe hiking with your four legged companions.

One last thought... even though mosquitoes are not so active at this time of year, ticks aren't yet asleep for the winter so click here for some very useful information about dogs and ticks!

Now you're prepared, what are you waiting for? Fill the tank, grab that map and get going!

Be healthy, stay well!

Health Expos and Pet Events

Pet Wellness Resource Center
has enjoyed an especially warm welcome at the many Health Expo and Pet events we have attended this year. In our travels we have met with hundreds of you who have shown us pictures of your beloved pets and shared your often touching stories with us! Following are a few excerpts from the many conversations we've had with you...

"Who knew there were alternatives to what is being offered at my veterinarian's office?!"

"After thousands of dollars in veterinary bills and seeing very little improvement in my dog’s health, I knew there had to be a better way!"

"I wish I had known about you when my cat first started showing symptoms.  If I had known, I'm sure she’d still be with us now."      (read more comments...)

A Healthy Alternative Approach

We at the Pet Wellness Resource Center offer a healthy alternative approach to bringing your pets back from illness and getting them onto a steady wellness track. Then we show you how to keep them that way!

We believe that the solutions to your pet's problems are found by looking at the whole animal. We integrate nutrition, behavior and general health to find the right solution for each individual.

And because we perform no lab tests and prescribe no drugs, we can do this at a fraction of what you pay for standard veterinary care and you never need to bring your pet in for an appointment!

Are Vaccinations Killing Our Pets? Know the dangers and protect your pets.

Stop the Shots! by John Clifton"Stop the Shots!" by John Clifton
Available at www.Amazon.com in paperback $8.95.

Most pets today are being given too many vaccinations too often. Many caretakers are unaware of the known risks inherent in vaccines. Studies upon studies have been performed that show the very real dangers in over-vaccinating and the risks involved every time a pet gets a shot.

But the word is not getting out. Dogs and cats continue to be over-vaccinated, resulting in compromised immune systems, serious diseases and (more often than you might imagine) death.

John Clifton, pet advocate and award-finalist author, thoroughly researched the topic, devoting a year to this single subject. He was amazed to find that all the major animal health organizations - such as the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association and the American Association of Feline Practitioners - all have recently issued guidelines emphasizing the need to minimize rather than maximize vaccines. The risks range from simple allergies to cancer to terminal shock.

But most veterinarians are not following the guidelines of their own professional literature! (read more...)
